Before you start: The first step says to cube the beef, but the last one says to leave the roast whole and let it stir apart. Either works — just decide before you start.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 onion, chopped fine
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Salt and pepper

Directions

  1. Remove fat from beef and cut into cubes.
  2. Combine with the remainder of the ingredients in a heavy saucepan and simmer 2 hours. (Or cook in a crockpot on low for 8 hours.)
  3. Leave the roast whole and pour the sauce over the top. Cut up the roast if needed — it usually stirs apart.
