Before you start: The baking powder reads as 12 teaspoons, which is almost certainly meant to be 1/2 teaspoon.

Where this one came from

Nobody's written this one down yet.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cut into 8 pieces
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 12 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped fine
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. For the filling: microwave cream cheese until soft, 20-30 seconds. Add sour cream, sugar and flour and whisk to combine. Set aside.
  2. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 325 degrees. Make a foil sling for an 8-inch square baking pan.
  3. For the batter: whisk flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl and set aside.
  4. Microwave chocolate and butter in a bowl at 50 percent power, stirring occasionally, until melted, 1-2 minutes.
  5. Whisk sugar, eggs and vanilla together in a medium bowl. Add melted chocolate mixture (do not clean bowls) and whisk until incorporated. Add flour mixture and fold to combine.
  6. Transfer half the batter to the bowl used to melt the chocolate. Spread remaining batter in prepared pan. Spread cream cheese filling evenly over the batter.
  7. Microwave the bowl of reserved batter until warm and pourable, 10-20 seconds. Using a spoon, dollop softened batter over cream cheese filling, 6-8 dollops. Using a knife, swirl batter through cream cheese filling to make a marbled pattern, 10-12 strokes, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the edges.
  8. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached, 35-40 minutes. Let cool in pan on a wire rack for 1 hour.
