Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • granulated sugar, for coating

Directions

  1. Mix thoroughly the butter, powdered sugar, egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
  2. Blend in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Cover; chill 2-3 hours.
  3. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Drop dough by rounded spoonfuls onto cookie sheet.
  4. Using a small plastic cup, flatten cookies to about 1/4 inch, dipping the bottom of the cup in sugar first.
  5. Bake 7-8 minutes or until light brown on edges. Makes about 5 dozen 2-2 1/2 inch cookies.
