Before you start: The dough isn't included here — you'll need a batch of oatmeal bread dough, enough for two loaves, before you start. The directions also call for olive oil to saute the vegetables.

Where this one came from

Nobody's written this one down yet.

Ingredients

  • Dough: 1 oatmeal bread recipe (enough for 2 loaves)
  • Filling:
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped and sauteed
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon caraway
  • 1 medium cabbage
  • ¼ teaspoon thyme
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup

Directions

  1. Saute onion and cabbage in olive oil until translucent; remove from pan.
  2. Brown the hamburger until no longer pink.
  3. Add the rest of the filling ingredients and the cabbage back into the pan.
  4. Cut the dough and roll out into a rectangle.
  5. Put ¼ to ½ cup of filling on the rectangle.
  6. Pick up 2 sides and pinch the seams, turn over, and pinch the ends together.
  7. Allow to sit, covered with a tea towel, 20 minutes to rise.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
