Russian Dill Pickles

Sliced cucumbers packed with onion and dill, covered with a sweet-sour boiling brine; makes six quarts.

Ingredients

  • Cucumbers
  • Onions
  • Fresh dill
  • 6 cups white vinegar
  • 3 cups water
  • ¾ cup salt
  • 4 ½ cups sugar

Directions

  1. Wash and slice cucumbers into quart jars.
  2. For each quart, add sliced onion and 1 head fresh dill.
  3. Combine remaining ingredients (vinegar, water, salt, and sugar) and bring to a rolling boil.
  4. Pour immediately over cucumbers until it covers the contents of the jar. Fill to ½ inch and seal.
  5. Enough for 6 quarts.
