Sweet Roll Dough

Base yeast dough with milk, eggs and shortening, kneaded and given two rises — for cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls or coffee cakes.

Can be used for any type of rolls: dinner rolls, coffee cakes, etc.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup warm water
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups lukewarm milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup soft shortening
  • half of 7 to 7 1/2 cups sifted flour

Directions

  1. Mix water and yeast and stir to dissolve.
  2. Stir in the lukewarm milk, sugar, salt, eggs, shortening, and half of the flour; mix with a spoon until smooth.
  3. Add enough of the remaining flour to handle easily.
  4. Knead about 5 minutes.
  5. Let rise until doubled.
  6. Punch down.
  7. Let rise again.
