Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups butter
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 24 small (1 ½ inch) York peppermint patties

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees (325 for a glass pan). Grease a 9 x 13 baking pan (9 x 7 inch for ½ batch). Make sure you grease the pan.
  2. In a large bowl, with a spoon or wire whisk, stir together butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs, stir until well blended.
  3. Stir in flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt; blend well.
  4. Reserve 2 cups batter, set aside. Spread remaining batter in prepared pan.
  5. Arrange peppermint patties over batter, about 1/2 inch apart. Spread reserved 2 cups batter over patties.
  6. Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan.
  7. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Makes approximately 36 brownies.
