Squash and Apple Bake
Butternut or buttercup squash softened in the microwave, layered with apple slices, and baked under brown sugar, butter and mace.

Before you start: Two teaspoons of salt reads high for a dish this sweet. Consider starting with about half a teaspoon and tasting.

Ingredients
- 2 pounds butternut or buttercup squash
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon mace
- 2 apples, cored and cut in ½ inch slices
Directions
- Microwave squash to ½ done.
- Peel and core, and cut in ½-¾ inch slices.
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Stir together remaining ingredients except apples.
- Arrange squash in a 9x9 inch square pan and top with apple slices.
- Sprinkle sugar mixture over the top, cover with foil, and bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until squash and apples are tender.
